Wires and Cables and Ports, Oh My!
The first step to importing videos is getting the square peg into the square hole...
The "old" firewire ports--On the left is a 4-pin firewire cable, and on the right is a 6-pin firewire.
The "new" firewire (aka Firewire 800)--On the left is a 4-pin, and on the right is a 9-pin firewire.
The ports on the new Macbook Pro's generally look like this. The key port for importing video is the FireWire 800 port (i.e., 9-pin FireWire)
An example of a PC, here's my previous laptop. The key port for importing video is the 4-pin FireWire port on the far left.
